The BMW i4 is updated with efficiency improvements and a new top-of-the-range version.

With these improvements, BMW hopes to boost sales of one of its most highly rated electric models among the brand's customers.

The Bavarian manufacturer has just announced an update to its i4 model for this summer with improvements in efficiency and performance in the versions currently on sale, to which A new one will also be added at the top of the range.

Starting next July, the versions eDrive35 y eDrive40 will have new power electronics that incorporates silicon carbide inverters instead of traditional silicon semiconductors. This technology allows for more efficient conversion of the battery's DC current to AC current for the electric motor, thus reducing energy losses and cooling needs.

According to the manufacturer itself, this important improvement translates into a decrease in energy consumption of approximately 4.5 percent, which as a consequence This should increase the range by up to 22 kilometers., depending on the model and configuration.

To be more specific, thanks to this technological improvement, the version eDrive35 will reach 428 kilometers of autonomy under the WLTP homologation cycle, while the version eDrive40 will reach 510 kilometers. It is worth mentioning, on the other hand, that in the absence of official confirmation, the version xDrive40 which came onto the market in 2024, with a dual electric motor and all-wheel drive, may not benefit from these improvements, as BMW did not refer to it at any point in the press release.

New BMW i4 M60 xDrive

The most notable novelty, however, is the presentation of the new M60 xDrive version as the new flagship model of the range, replacing the M50 xDrive. This new version offers a power increase of 42 kW, which allows it to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 3.7 seconds -two-tenths less than its predecessor-, with a top speed of 225 km/h. BMW also promises a range of 551 km on a single charge under the WLTP homologation cycle. Maximum charging power remains at 205 kW.

As for its price, in Germany this new top-of-the-range version It will be available from 72.900 euros. This represents an increase of 800 euros compared to the M50 xDrive version it replaces.

Finally, it should be noted that since last April, BMW has offered a warranty on the high-voltage batteries of all its electric models. up to eight years or 160 thousand kilometers, pledging to repair free of charge any battery whose capacity falls below 70 percent during this period.
