BMW reveals some interesting details about the next-generation iX3

Ultra-fast charging, a range of up to 800 km, and innovative technology define BMW's new electric SUV, whose official launch is just around the corner.

The new iX3, which will debut the innovative platform New Class from the Bavarian manufacturer, will be unveiled at the IAA Mobility in Munich next September. This mid-size SUV will set the course for the company's commitment to electric mobility in the coming years. and its development is already in the final phase, with near-production prototypes undergoing intensive performance testing.

BMW has now shared some interesting details about the new iX3, although as expected, the most important ones have been saved for next September's unveiling. One notable piece of information we already know, however, concerns the power supported when recharging with direct current.

Thanks to its 800V architecture, the new iX3 will make a difference at the charging point, supporting up to 400 kW. According to the company, in an Alpitronic HYC400 charger, The iX3 is capable of increasing its range by more than 350 kilometers in just ten minutes. The Bavarian manufacturer has, however, kept the information regarding the time required to increase the charge percentage from 10 to 80 percent to a minimum.

With an estimated range of up to 800 kilometers under the WLTP homologation cycle, the iX3 promises to make a difference in terms of efficiency as well. However, the battery pack's capacity is still unknown.

Recharge wherever you want

Unlike the new Mercedes-Benz CLA, which is only compatible with 800V charging points, as it does not include an inverter - something that has been widely criticized -, The iX3 will be able to use 400V charging points., thus offering greater versatility. But not only that, Bidirectional charging will be supported from the moment of launch, with functions Vehicle to Load (V2L) that will allow electronic devices to be powered at a maximum power of 3.7 kW, Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) via a DC wallbox of up to 19.2 kW.

Aside from the load, the new iX3 will also make a difference in the technological section, with innovations such as the "Heart of Joy«, a central processing unit that manages the driving, braking, energy recovery and steering functions, capable of working with all that data ten times faster than previous systemsThis translates into more precise handling, with consistent cornering behavior and energy recovery so efficient that, in 98% of cases, it allows the vehicle to stop without using the disc brakes.

BMW has thought through every last detail during the development of this new generation electric SUV, something that is reflected, for example, in the integration of a smart charging cover, which is capable of detecting the driver's intention to recharge at a regular charging point and automatically opening it.

In short, the new iX3 is set to raise the bar, making life difficult for its rivals in terms of both range and charging time, without forgetting the technological aspect either. According to the company itself, this new-generation electric SUV not only redefines the driving pleasure typical of BMW, but also lays the foundation for future innovations across all of the brand's models, regardless of its type of propulsion.
