The Lexus NX is getting ready for 2027: here's the update to the popular Japanese model

After launching its second generation five years ago, the Lexus NX is being updated to meet the challenges of 2027. This update includes an improved interior design, increased length, and new hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

On the outside, the changes begin with an increase in its length, which grows 30 millimeters...reaching 4.690 millimeters. However, the wheelbase remains the same at 2.690 millimeters. Another change is the front LED lighting signature, which combines with the sculpted Spindle grillThe triangular air intakes in the bumpers complete the elegant look of the model.

The profile doesn't offer too many changes from the current model, but the new alloy wheels and the removal of the chrome trim make it clear that it's a completely new version.

The rear features updated graphics in the taillights , with an L- shaped motif flanking the illuminated emblem. The F Sport trim adds piano black details to the bodywork. It also includes aerodynamic enhancements, and the 20-inch wheels feature red brake calipers. New body colors have been added, such as Sonic Platinum , Sonic Tellys Khaki Green , and Titanium Carbide Gres , which is exclusive to the F Sport version.

The interior of the 2027 Lexus NX

The interior has also been redesigned, featuring a new dashboard reminiscent of the one in the Lexus ES. A 14-inch multimedia screen sits in the center, running the latest Lexus Connect operating system. The digital instrument cluster measures 12,3 inches. The center console offers a cleaner look, and the physical controls provide haptic feedback and retract into the dashboard trim when not in use.

The upholstery has also been updated with new colors and designs, such as Clay Red and, in the case of the F Sport, Prominence. The wood trim is available in Dark Oak, and there are also Wrought Bamboo trims, which are made with 55% sustainable materials.

The steering wheel is also a new design, and the seat position has been optimized for improved comfort. Higher trim levels include the Lexus Sensory Concierge system, which synchronizes ambient lighting, display patterns, climate control, seat heating, and personalized cabin fragrances in three modes: Inspire, Radiance, and Revitalise.

As for safety, it has been enhanced with the Lexus Safety System+ package , featuring longer-range sensors and a camera that provides an improved view of the surroundings.

New hybrid technology

As for the hybrid powertrain , the improvements are quite significant. The 2027 Lexus NX is built on the TNGA-K platform, which offers greater structural rigidity. The suspension has been revised, the electric power steering recalibrated, a cornering braking system added , and sound insulation improved.

It features Lexus' sixth-generation hybrid technology , delivering greater efficiency and performance. The power control unit and transmission are integrated into a single unit, as is done in Lexus electric vehicles. This reduces weight by 10 kg and lowers the height by 10 centimeters , creating more interior space.

In the flagship model, the NX 450+ plug-in hybrid , power output ranges from 288 to 322 hp , depending on the region. It features E-Four all-wheel drive, enabling it to handle various driving conditions. The lithium-ion battery boasts increased rigidity and a 30% increase in capacity, from 18 kWh to 23 kWh.

This battery provides an electric range of 100 kilometers under the WLTP cycle, 26 kilometers more than the current model. It can be charged using a DC fast charger, allowing for a full charge in a short time. The eAxle motor is paired with the 2.5-liter combustion engine , and the combined power output ranges from 188 to 241 hp, with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive available.

In some markets , an entry-level version, the NX 300h hybrid, will be available, featuring front-wheel drive and a smaller, 2.0-liter engine. This version will have a combined output of 194 hp . In other markets, there will be versions with a combustion engine, without electrification.

2027 Lexus NX Launch

The 2027 Lexus NX will be available in international markets by the end of the year. Deliveries in Europe are expected to begin in spring 2027. The Lexus NX has sold approximately 1,9 million units worldwide since its launch in 2014. It is Lexus's equivalent to the popular Toyota RAV4, and therefore bears a strong resemblance to this more widely used model.
