Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante: the convertible that hits 340 km/h

The new Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante, with its 715 CV V12 engine and a top speed of 340 km/h, is the fastest convertible ever built by the English brand.

Aston Martin “Discover” its DBS Superleggera, and the result is this DBS Superleggera Volante. Probably one of the most beautiful convertibles in the world… and also one of the fastest.

The secret? A carefully studied aerodynamics and, above all, the powerful 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 engine. With a maximum output of 715 CV and peak torque at 900 rpm, the V12 propels the DBS Superleggera Volante up to a top speed of 340 km/h.

Its acceleration figures are no less impressive: 3.6 seconds to reach 100 km/h from a standstill. The new eight-speed ZF gearbox, with software specially tuned for this version, also plays a big part.

The second model of Aston Martin to receive the Volante designation since the start of the company’s relaunch strategy promises, therefore, unique driving sensations (if I may say so).

Part of the secret lies in the aerodynamics…

According to the brand, considerable effort went into converting the bodywork into a convertible so that the Aeroblade system used on the coupé remains effective. Thus, at top speed, the DBS Superleggera Volante generates 177 kg of downforce, only 3 kg less than the coupé.

Naturally, work has also gone into the acoustic insulation provided by the fabric roof, which can be operated from inside the vehicle or remotely via the key.

It takes 14 seconds to fold down completely, and 16 seconds to return to a closed car. Aston Martin says the roof has undergone tests including more than 100,000 operating cycles, simulating up to 10 years of use, to guarantee the reliability of the mechanism.

Sales of the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante will begin next September, with a price in Germany of 295,000 euros. We hope to see it soon in the new Aston Martin facilities in Madrid.

Standard equipment will include 21-inch wheels with 265/35 tyres on the front axle and 305/30 on the rear, carbon-ceramic brakes, adaptive suspension control (with GT, Sport and Sport Plus modes) and a Bang & Olufsen sound system, among many other features.
