Aston Martin renames its Project 003 as Aston Martin AM-RB 003

At the Swiss show, Aston Martin arrived with new products, among them this mid-engined supercar of a new era, renamed Aston Martin AM-RB 003

The escalation of Aston Martin’s presentations is spectacular, not only because of the Aston Martin Valkyrie, a production model whose internal conceptual code was Project 001 until the confirmation that “the car” would be built by Aston Martin.

Later we learned of a Project 002, the racing version of the 001, that is, the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-Pro, a vehicle that, according to the latest information, will apparently compete in the WEC, the World Endurance Championship, in the 2020/21 season.

And, below these two vehicles, a simpler, more modest but very exclusive and equally appealing model. A project that took the name Project 003 until, as one of the most succulent novelties of the Geneva Motor Show, it was presented with its definitive name: Aston Martin AM-RB 003.

Decoding the Aston Martin AM-RB 003

The initials of the name chosen for this supercar are easy to decipher: AM-RB 003 stands for Aston Martin-Red Bull 003. The third Aston Martin car with a mid-mounted engine, the result of the collaboration with Red Bull.

Although the general association between Red Bull and its star product, the energy drink, may still be very strong, beyond a simple soft drink with high doses of stimulants Red Bull has become a business group with ramifications in a broad and diverse commercial universe. From multimedia broadcast channels to engineering.

And, on this last front, it is worth noting the close relationship between the other most popular representative of Red Bull, the Formula 1 team, Red Bull Racing, and its affinity beyond sponsorship with Aston Martin; the collaboration also extends to another engineering department, Red Bull Advanced Technologies.

It is this partnership between Aston Martin and Red Bull Advanced Technologies that will give rise to a dream supercar. A novel Aston Martin that draws on the knowledge of the design and technology team of Red Bull Advanced Technologies applied to a car built by the maker of rolling dreams, Aston Martin.

The joint product will be the Aston Martin AM-RB 003.

AM-RB 003The novelties of the Aston Martin AM-RB 003

Although, in recent times, we have finally learned about the merits of the engine of the Aston Martin Valkyrie, of the new Aston Martin AM-RB 003, for now we know the most basic data.

The third car in Aston Martin’s order of importance will be a vehicle with the engine positioned in the middle. A mechanical heart whose main block will be a turbocharged V6 and will have an additional electric assist. That is, the Aston Martin AM-RB 003 will be a hybrid car.

Without more data having been released yet, the car should deliver a power of no less than 720 CV, enough to face other high-performance sports cars from rival brands, but below one thousand horsepower so as not to rival the hierarchy of the new Aston Martin models where the Valkyrie reigns as monarch.

An engine that will be installed in a carbon fibre chassis, a material that will also be used for the bodywork.

Aston Martin does not hide the influence of the design of the Project 003 with respect to the Project 001 and, therefore, while the Aston Martin AM-RB 003 is not a mini-Valkyrie, it will receive an aerodynamic treatment shared with its reference model.

The aerodynamic sculpting will be the responsibility of Red Bull Advanced Technologies, which will hold the baton, a design for which technology approved by NASA will be applied.

Behind the wheel of the Aston Martin AM-RB 003

For now no one has taken the reins of any production unit, but we already know what the cabin of the Aston Martin AM-RB 003 will be like.

Based on its concept, the Aston Martin AM-RB 003 is a car that is easier and less extreme to drive than the Aston Martin Valkyrie, so its cabins must be clearly different.

From the very entry and exit of the interior, the Aston Martin AM-RB 003 will feature doors that open similarly to those of the LMP1 category Le Mans prototypes, down to the roominess of the seats for its two only occupants, who will enjoy a space, cleanliness, elegance and quality befitting a luxury hypercar.

The exclusivity of the Aston Martin AM-RB 003

A car to which only 500 owners will have access, since only 500 units of the Aston Martin AM-RB 003 will be built. The price of this Aston Martin AM-RB 003 is still unknown, but the first ones to be assembled are expected to be available by 2021.
