La lawsuit recently filed by BMW to the importer in Europe of Shuanghuan, China Automobile, against the CEO model, with which it does more than just share design features with the X5 (especially in the rear), has reached a result, and that is that the Munich brand has managed to ban the sale of the aforementioned model in German territory.
This comes weeks after Shuanghuan put two of its models on sale in Germany, the CEO and the UFO, another one that inherits the figure of the second generation Toyota RAV4. Now the importer can appeal the lawsuit, however, it is most likely that the distributors will have to collect the units on display again.
Before Shuangan attempted to set foot on European soil, the head of importer China Automobile, Karl Schloessl, told reporters Associated Press that the CEO had no problem with imitations because Its design was carried out independently of the X5, and was subsequently approved by the Chinese government. However, BMW did not think the same and assured that customers would not see the differences at first glance between the Chinese and German model, so It was a crime.
This gives rise to the second demand that the Chinese manufacturer could see from Mercedes-Benz, who also did not like it at all when the Nobel was launched, a vehicle identical to the first generation smart Fortwo, which was also presented with an unfriendly message towards the Stuttgart firm.
It seems that Chinese firms still have a long way to go before entering the European market, and they should think more carefully about what to bring before they are faced with reality, although the last Beijing show showed that other brands were on the right track.
