The Subaru WRX STI Type RA NBR Special has become the first four-door car to set a record time at the Nürburgring with 6 minutes and 57 seconds.

Last July, Subaru announced the record achieved by the new WRX STI Type RA NBR Special at the Nürburgring circuit . Now, the Japanese automaker has released the video of the 6 minutes and 57,5 seconds it took the sedan to complete the lap.

The car has achieved the record for four-door vehicles, although in the case of this model it has been specially prepared by Prodrive with technology similar to that of racing cars. Richie Stanaway was the pilot in charge of carrying out the test.

The car's engine is the 2,0-liter boxer engine used in the STI's domestic market, but it has been boosted by Prodrive to produce 600 hp and, as we can see in the video, revs effortlessly to 8.000 rpm . Its exterior features a special body kit designed to improve downforce and a large diffuser.

Subaru has also designed a limited edition of the WRX STI Type RA that is inspired by the NBR Special and features a 314 hp engine.

Below you can see the video of the record-breaking lap of almost 21 kilometers from the onboard camera, and to give you an idea, the model achieved a time similar to that of a Porsche 918 Spyder.
