5 things about the Fast and Furious 8 trailer

The new instalment hits cinemas on 14 April 2017, and here we break down the key points of what will be the first film without Paul Walker.

After several teasers and set images, the official trailer for Fast and Furious 8 has finally arrived. The film will hit cinemas on 14 April 2017. Following his death in 2013, it will be the first time since Tokyo Drift that the saga’s until now biggest star, Paul Walker, does not appear.

After analysing the trailer for the latest Fast and Furious in detail, these are the five key points to take away:

  1. Dom turns bad

5 cosas sobre el tráiler de Fast and Furious 8At the start of the saga, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) said the following line: “I don’t have friends, I have family”. Well, in this film neither is true, because he betrays his friends by allying himself with the plot’s antagonist (Charlize Theron).

Although there is not much to worry about, it is probably all a clever ruse by the screenwriters, and Dom will end up sharing a few “Coronitas” with his friends at the end of the film.

  1. Shaw will be on the side of the good guys

3. Many fine cars appear

This is no surprise: Fast and Furious has always included a wide variety of seriously cool cars in its scenes, although in some instalments more than others. You might as well get a bucket ready for the drool if you want to watch the new film. The following models can be identified in the trailer alone:

Dodge Challenger

Dodge Charger

Jaguar F-Type

Mercedes-AMG GT

Land Rover Defender

Lamborghini Murciélago

Subaru WRX STI

Chevrolet Corvette C2

Plymouth GTX

Aston Martin DBS

Bentley Continental GT

Plymouth GTX

Dodge Viper ACR

Nissan GT-R

Toyota Supra

Honda S2000

Nismo IDx Concept

Mercedes SLS AMG

  1. A symbolic street race once again takes centre stage in one of the scenes

The latest Fast and Furious films have largely dropped the street racing that made this saga famous. However, this instalment adds street races set in Havana (Cuba); they are not part of the main plot but they will please the most enthusiastic fans and add some value to the film.

  1. Action and entertainment in equal measure

There is no need to take too seriously Vin Diesel’s claim that Fast and Furious 8 has a chance of winning an Oscar. Judging by the trailer, we are not going to see a film very different from its predecessors: plenty of explosions, crashes, absurd action and a barrage of quips from the character “Pierce”. In short, Fast and Furious 8 looks set to be just as entertaining as the last few instalments.
