AMG talks about its future hybrid models

The next generation of Mercedes AMGs will incorporate hybrid technology, including the start-stop system and energy recovery during braking. Its use will be aimed at reducing consumption rather than serving as an additional power source to improve performance.
The former head of AMG, Volker Mornhinweg, stated in 2008 that batteries, ultracapacitors and flywheels were being tested for its future hybrid models, with the possibility of using this technology to increase the final output of the powertrain, but focusing more on fuel savings and the reduction of polluting gas emissions.
The current head of Daimler’s mobility and engineering department, Herbert Kohler, has stated that AMG’s hybrid future is a reality. “In the future AMG will continue to offer high-performance models, but there will also be hybrids. AMG needs to reduce fuel consumption”

The VW Group has been one of the first to use hybrid technology as a means of increasing the power and performance of its models, with the Porsche 918 Spyder currently its masterpiece. However, Kohler warns that that will not be the path Mercedes will follow: “Hybrids can help improve performance, but our primary goal is consumption.”
Mercedes’s future plans also include the development of vehicles in the style of the Opel Ampera, extended-range electric cars, “the first fruits of which we will see very soon.”
