Aston Martin embraces electrification and Lucid Motors will help it

The British luxury brand has signed a collaboration agreement with electric motor manufacturer Lucid Motors, which will supply these to its models.

Aston Martin seemed not to dare to move forward with electrification, so some thought it would not have a very promising future in a market increasingly geared towards electric mobility. But that fear appears to have been unfounded, because the brand has just announced the signing of an agreement with a company specialising in the manufacture of electric motors to equip its models.

The agreement has been signed with Lucid Motors, a company with great experience in developing electric motors, with a very strong presence in the world of Formula E. Not only that, but it is now also present in the road electric car market with the Lucid Air, a model that attracts a great deal of attention.

Lucid Air Grand Touring Perdormance

This electric saloon offers a range of 900 kilometres and comes in a version with an output of 1,200 CV. So it is a good addition for a luxury brand looking to position itself in a market it perhaps entered a little late. Either way, the partnership between Aston Martin and Lucid Motors ensures the brand will have quality motors and the most advanced technology for its models.

It is not known what plans they have to begin preparing an electric lineup at the British brand, although something has been heard about this. An electric SUV could be shaped, a segment that is increasingly popular, as the latest launches from the major brands show.

But this vehicle will not be the only arrival; the launch of an electric hypercar is also expected. It will become the top of the range for the brand, in front of models offered by similar brands such as Ferrari or Lamborghini.

An agreement worth 232 million euros

With the signing of this agreement, Aston Martin will issue 28.4 million ordinary shares, in addition to making staggered payments to Lucid Motors worth 232 million euros. Separately, the American company will acquire 3.7% of the British brand. With this, it will join China’s Geely, which already holds 7.6% of it. We will be waiting for the announcement of Aston Martin’s electric proposals, which will be made within a few months.
