Aston Martin will launch its first electric car in 2019

The British firm will develop the Aston Martin RapidE in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering.

Aston Martin has announced that its first fully electric vehicle will reach the market from 2019, and it will be a 100% electric version of the concept presented two years ago, the RapidE AMR. This four-door electric model will be produced in only 155 units.

According to the company’s CEO, Andy Palmer, the RapidE will be the brand’s first zero-emissions model, after declaring its intention to bet on zero-emissions vehicles. “The RapidE will show the vision, the desire and the capability of Aston Martin to successfully embrace the shift to electric cars, producing a new car that will remain faithful to our philosophy and will delight our customers,” Palmer stated.

The model arrived in concept form in 2015 and was scheduled for launch in 2018, but its arrival will be delayed after the withdrawal of Leeco – the company in charge of developing the cars’ engineering – from the project due to financial problems. For the development of the new RapidE, Aston Martin will count on the collaboration of Williams Advanced Engineering – the division responsible, among other things, for the engineering of the single-seaters of the Williams Formula 1 team and official battery supplier in Formula E – ; this division already collaborated in the development of the concept version of the RapidE.

Paul McNamara, technical director of Williams Advanced Engineering, expressed his gratitude to Aston Martin for trusting his company. “We are very pleased to support this prestigious British car manufacturer with its future electrification strategy,” said McNamara.

Not many details are yet known about the model that will become Aston Martin’s first electric car, but the brand has confirmed that it will have dynamics similar to those of the RapidE S, a model that features a spectacular 6-litre V12 engine that develops 550 CV of power.

Its price will be around 225,000 euros

The Aston Martin RapidE will arrive in 2019 with a price close to 225,000 euros, which means it will cost approximately 45,000 euros more than the current RapidE V12.
