BlueZero E-Cell, F-Cell and E-Plus: the electric cars from Mercedes

Mercedes was a brand that had not yet announced its electric plans for its compact cars; we only knew of the hybrid version of the Class S. But this is about to change, because Mercedes has just announced that it will unveil three electric concepts at the Detroit Motor Show.

The BlueZero E-Cell, F-Cell and E-Plus are Mercedes’s electric triplets, each with its own features. They also give us a preview of the line-up that the next Mercedes Class A and Class B will have.

The BlueZero E-Cell is a five-door MPV equipped with lithium-ion batteries and a range of 100 km. Once that distance is covered, you would have to plug it in, and theoretically, in two hours it would be fully charged again.

The BlueZero F-Cell is a prototype with a fuel cell, a range of 400 km and an engine that produces up to 122 CV. Finally, the BlueZero E-Plus is a hybrid that uses a petrol engine (the three-cylinder engine of a smart fortwo) to charge a lithium-ion battery pack. Its range reaches up to 600 km.

In January we will have more details, since for now only photos of the E-Cell have been released. Still, Mercedes’s approach of pursuing several routes to developing electric vehicles is very interesting.
