Check DGT points: 5 simple steps to solve the puzzle

Do you know how many points you have left on your licence? Check your points with the DGT using this quick guide.

Would you like to know how many points you have on your licence, but never find the time or the way to find out? Don’t worry, at Top 10 Motor we are going to explain in five simple steps what you need to do to check your points with the DGT.

1. Check your points on the DGT website

On the DGT website, there is a section dedicated exclusively to checking points by drivers. In this section there are three options available to check your points:

2. The recommended option: “Check points with username and password”

The first two options are somewhat more tedious than the third. The second requires a longer waiting time to receive a certificate, and the first requires an access key. The option “Check points with username and password” is the fastest and most efficient route. This option rarely fails and does not require you to apply for the issue of a certificate. That said, there are a number of details to keep in mind, which we explain below.

3. Request your access key: watch out for the issue date!

Once you have selected the option “Check points with username and password” you will need to enter your ID number (DNI) and your access key. If you have never done this before, you will have to request your new access key. To do this, follow these steps:

– Fill in the “Captcha”: enter the characters shown in the image

– Press the yellow button to request the access key

IMPORTANT: the date of issue must be that of your first driving licence. That is, if you have several licences (car and motorcycle) you must enter the date of the oldest permit. Otherwise the system will not recognise your details.

4. Check your email

After all of the above, you will receive an email containing a link like the one in the following image:

Click on the link and you will receive another email showing your access key.

BONUS: A very interesting alternative

The Dvuelta platform offers a free website so that drivers can always keep track of their points balance: infopuntos.com. The great advantage of this website is that with just one click you will be kept permanently informed about your points balance. If your points balance changes, the platform will send you an email to let you know.
