Comparison Nissan Qashqai 1.6 dCi 130 vs Mazda CX-5 2.2 Skyactiv-D 150

We bring you a comparison between two of the most popular SUVs currently on the market: the Nissan Qashqai and the Mazda CX-5.

Design, space and comfort

The design is one of the main selling points of these two models, although each manufacturer takes a slightly different approach. The Mazda CX-5 offers well-defined but somewhat more sculpted lines and a certain premium look, while the Nissan Qashqai tries to win you over from the first moment with large wheels and a more provocative appearance.

As a car that sits halfway between the mainstream and premium segments, the perceived quality of the interior of the Mazda CX-5 is excellent, though not quite that of the Nissan Qashqai, which uses less showy materials that are nonetheless decent and more than acceptable.

Both models are very comfortable for passengers – in both the front and rear seats – and stand out for their wide range of technology.

Performance: dynamics, power and consumption

Both the Nissan Qashqai and the Mazda CX-5 offer a great balance between stability and comfort when driving. The proportions of the Nissan are slightly more compact than those of the Mazda, which should give it a slight dynamic advantage over its rival.

The 2.2 Skyactiv-D engine in the Mazda CX-5 is slightly more powerful than the 1.6 dCi in the Nissan Qashqai, although its performance is very similar, including consumption. The engine in the CX-5 is very progressive (its dependence on the turbo is much lower than that of other diesel engines) and pleasant to drive, while the powertrain of the Qashqai stands out for its great flexibility; it delivers its power from low revs almost to the very top of the rev range.

Equipment

Both offer a wide range of equipment in the trim levels selected for this comparison (among the most popular with buyers), although the Mazda offers a greater number of driver assistance systems than the Nissan.
