Detroit Motor Show: Volvo will also present an XC60 Plug-in Hybrid

Volvo brings forward the unveiling at the NAIAS of its variant similar to the V60 Plug-in Hybrid, the XC60 Plug-in Hybrid, although with a petrol engine instead of diesel.

Just days ago we announced the arrival in Spain of the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid, and now Volvo has moved again, this time with a similar powertrain, fitted once more to the XC60, whose new model will be presented at the Detroit Motor Show.

The difference between the plug-in V60 and this new XC60 is that the combustion engine it incorporates will be a petrol engine, instead of a diesel, as we saw in the plug-in example arriving in Spain. But like its sibling, the XC60 will be powered by an electric motor for the front axle, reserving the traditional engine for the rear axle.

The engine that Volvo has placed between the front wheels is a two-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, which allows exceptionally low consumption for a vehicle of this type, falling within 2.3 l/100 km, much better than the figures achieved by diesel models.

In electric mode, the driver of this plug-in XC60 can draw 261 hp from its 11.2 kWh battery pack, and a range that is not very long, by the way (about 45 kilometres). We will have more news and data on the XC60 Plug-in Hybrid when the Detroit show officially opens, but it can be said in advance that the model will reach Europe next year.
