Do we really want this much entertainment technology in our cars?

The cars we drive today come with more and more electronic, safety, navigation and entertainment systems included. However, the question remains open of whether we need all of that, and there is concern about the growing dependence on certain gadgets that come with our cars.

Take for example the Sync system from Ford, on whose platform other brands have developed similar systems. Sync enables voice control and a direct connection to an iPod, Zune or any other MP3 player, by means of a USB connection or a flash drive containing music, which it can play without problems, as well as text messages and Bluetooth phone calls. As we can see, this is something that is not essential to driving the vehicle, much less to safety, given the distractions it could cause.

Of course, these systems are offered as an option, and it is up to each person to decide whether to use them or not. Even so, there are drivers who pay more attention to the route the navigator gives us or to looking for a song on the iPod than to driving. The car is becoming something similar to the living room at home, rather than a means of transport.

As long as this kind of entertainment does not interfere with driving, there is nothing to worry about. However, the reality is quite the opposite. There is nothing wrong with listening to music while driving, but let’s pay a little more attention to the road, the traffic conditions and our own car. We will save ourselves more than one headache.
