Dubai aims to become the safest city in the world, which is why it spares no expense in improving its security forces. So much so that the Dubai Police are beginning to test flying motorbikes…

With the aim of making Dubai the safest and most technologically advanced city in the world, investment in its security forces is unmatched. So much so that the police have just received their first flying motorbike. I know it is hard to believe, but it is true.

The name of the flying motorbike is “S3 2019 Hoverbike”, which serves as a test unit to train officers and to be used before the rest of the units arrive.

As for its figures, it will reach a top speed of 70 km/h and can rise to a height of up to 5 metres above the ground. These figures are not very impressive, but they are understandable, especially given how early this technology still is.

As for its control, it is supposedly not going to be very complicated, since it is classified as an eVTOL, which means an electric vehicle capable of taking off and landing vertically like a drone.

Its range is 25 minutes, which makes it an impractical vehicle for patrolling. However, it is great for reaching congested traffic areas at high speed, quite literally by flying.Motos voladoras eléctricas policía nacional

Each S3 2019 Hoverbike costs a staggering €130,000. However, to ensure that no unexpected incidents occur, the company will vet buyers to make sure they have the skills needed to handle the vehicle before selling it to them.

Curiously, in countries such as the USA, piloting a hoverbike does not require a pilot’s licence, despite it clearly being a vehicle with obvious aerial capabilities.

The company responsible for selling the motorbikes announces that the Dubai Police could order between 30 and 40 new motorbikes in the coming months, very optimistic figures for the company and incredible news for the city of Dubai.

In our view, this initiative, although it is a luxury that many consider unnecessary, could bring a major increase in the effectiveness of local police operations, allowing them to reach an accident scene in record time while avoiding all traffic.

Below we leave you a video where you can see in action a training session with the S3 2019 Hoverbike, one of the first flying motorbikes in history:
