EuroNCAP tests quadricycles, including the Renault Twizy

New round of tests at EuroNCAP, but this time the models are very unusual: four quadricycles have been tested, with truly worrying results. The models analysed were the following: Renault Twizy 80, Club Car Village 2+2 (a golf cart), the Tazzari ZERO and the Ligier IXO J Line 4 (a car that doesn’t need a licence).

Only the Renault Twizy comes out of the tests reasonably well, because the rest of the models are frankly frightening. In fact, it’s better not to have an accident in a golf cart, judging by the images, because you can come out very badly injured.

All four vehicles were subjected to frontal and side impact tests at 50 km/h (I didn’t know golf carts could reach such speeds). The best performer, and the only one with an airbag, is the Twizy, which at least scores 6 points out of 16 in total, thanks to the airbag and the seatbelt. However, it fails on its extreme rigidity, which causes the driver to absorb a great deal of force in the impact (especially in the neck), and the leg protection is also very weak. [Twizy videos]

In the case of the car that doesn’t need a licence (Ligier IXO J Line 4) and the electric Tazzari ZERO, the results are very similar and very worrying. In the car that doesn’t need a licence the seatbelt came loose, while in the electric one it broke at the anchorage point near the door. The Tazzari performed worse in protecting the upper part of the dummy than the lower part, while the car that doesn’t need a licence, besides the seatbelt incident, had the steering wheel strike the driver’s head, the right door came off and even the boot opened on impact. The Tazzari managed to come out better with a score of 4 out of 16 points, while the car that doesn’t need a licence only reached 2 points out of 16 in total. [Ligier videos] [Tazzari videos]

Although without a doubt the worst performer, you only have to watch the video, is the golf cart, since it breaks apart everywhere in the frontal impact and, on top of that, the steering wheel knocks the driver out with brutal force (enough to be surprised they survive). [Golf cart videos]

We leave you with the video so you can see all the cars and their crash tests in detail.
