EZ-PRO: the new robotic concept from Renault

Renault presents EZ-PRO, a vision of so-called “last-mile” deliveries in cities. It is an electric and autonomous concept that includes robotic, connected and shared units.

Renault EZ-PRO is an electric and autonomous car concept, interconnected with each other through AI and robotics for use in the city. Its world premiere took place today in Hannover (Germany), and it will have uses such as assisting with rapid “last-mile” deliveries.

The usefulness of this concept lies in the fact that “last-mile” delivery could lead to the interruption of professional service. Especially now that e-commerce is only growing, with this initiative, after the workers’ working day, these cars could take charge of making the last deliveries.

With this service, the customer will be able to choose where, how and when to receive the delivery. With EZ-PRO we could start to see a drastic change in the way deliveries are made, and one more step toward artificial intelligence gradually taking over the distribution of tasks, thus making the life of the citizen increasingly comfortable.

In the words of Ashwani Gupta, Executive Vice President of the VCL Alliance:

“Renault EZ-PRO is the professional solution we have designed to meet the needs of the ‘last-mile’ delivery ecosystem: logistics operators, distributors and delivery companies. These customized modules enable a flexible transport solution, with the potential to reduce costs and generate smoother traffic.“

EZ-PRO is a concept that operates through an autonomous central unit and intelligent driverless autonomous units. However, Renault ensures that the system will not be fully automated while there are still people holding transport jobs who are crucial to the process.

In other words, Renault, does not want to encourage the loss of human jobs, since, after all, if machines do not need to eat, rest or be paid, they are the most attractive option for companies. Now, this is where the ethical factor comes into play, and we could be seeing, whether intentionally or not, the beginning of machines replacing humans in various professions.

All this raises the obvious question of what will professionals in the sector do when they are no longer needed?, undoubtedly an answer we will hear more and more, and which, far from reassuring anyone, in the long run may only make things worse.

For now, the EZ-PRO and everything surrounding the project will be supervised by human professionals who will be in charge of ensuring correct operation and order tracking, which, in fact, is positive since it creates more jobs. As long as we do not see these machines working during “human” working hours, there is no reason for anything to go wrong.

Of course, this fleet will be fully electric, and its costs minimal. The customer or professional will be able to choose the pick-up location within the ranges these vehicles allow, the exact time of delivery as well as its real-time tracking. Likewise, the order can also be cancelled.

Below we offer you a video the brand launched to present the project:

To receive the package, the customer may choose for the time being, the cooperation of human intervention to receive the package, or an automated locker system available to the autonomous vehicles, which can be opened with a unique code via an app.

One of the main attractions of this service is, of course, the fact that it does not harm the environment, taking one more step toward the concept of a self-sustaining and clean city.

Its design, as we can see in the photos, looks taken from a science fiction film in the purest Ridley Scott style. It seems that little by little the city will increasingly become like those iconic cyberpunk cities of this famous genre of cinema. Once again, we can say the famous saying that “reality always surpasses fiction.”
