Ford Bronco R Prototype: a monstrous 4x4
The Ford Bronco R is a prototype from the American manufacturer. It gives us clues about what will become the company’s official model for 2021.
Designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Rod Hall’s victory in the Baja 1000, this prototype, Ford Bronco R gives us clues about the official model that will be unveiled next spring.

The prototype has been built by Ford Performance in collaboration with Geiser Bros. Interestingly, it pays tribute to the first generation of the Ford Bronco, as well as to the Jeep Wrangler.
Looking at the exterior, we can see that its grille is the classic Bronco design. Features such as LED headlights or the mirrors will be added to the final design for the production model.
On the side, we notice that its coupé design includes a very interesting custom paint accent.

It features a boot made from parts of the roll cage, as well as a spare wheel. The roof has a removable cover, which would give the model the option of being a convertible.
Ford has confirmed that the prototype of the Bronco R is based on the T6 architecture, which will also be present in the production model. The platform is also used in the Ranger.
Ford has commented that the prototype will compete in this year’s Baja 1000. That is where they will test its capabilities and durability.

The company has not given many details about its engine, however it is speculated that the production model will feature a 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder engine with approximately 270 CV and 420 Nm of torque.
That engine uses only one turbo and, according to Ford’s statements, will feature a twin turbo.
These figures may not surprise many, but they are nevertheless underestimated, especially considering that this Bronco will not weigh very much.

Ford has several twin-turbo engines, such as the 2.7-litre V6 in the F-150 that produces 325 CV and 542 Nm of torque. This could be another engine option that might make it into the production model.
What is clear is that this Ford Bronco R looks like a true heavyweight for your OffRoad adventures.
