Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2: the tyres that last the longest

The second generation of Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tyres sets new durability records, promising up to 50% more mileage than its predecessor.

Every time a tyre manufacturer launches a new product, it is normal for it to improve on the previous model’s performance: braking, rolling noise, dry grip… But with the new Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2, the surprise comes from one of the characteristics users look for most in a tyre: durability.

And it is not common for a new tyre to improve its estimated mileage… by up to 50% over its predecessor!

Hires

At least that is what Goodyear claims for its EfficientGrip Performance 2. And most importantly, it maintains a high level of performance until the legal tread wear limit of 1.6 mm is reached.

Safety and durability, the keys to a good tyre

To back up these claims, tyre manufacturers commission tests from certification bodies such as TÜV SÜD in Germany. Goodyear has done just that, comparing its new summer tyres with the main competitors on the market: Michelin Primacy 4, Continental PremiumContact 6, Bridgestone Turanza T005 and Pirelli Cinturato P7 Blue.

For the tests, carried out on open roads in Germany, a very common size was chosen, 205/55-16 91V, using a Volkswagen Golf 7 as the test vehicle. The announced result is a mileage up to 11,000 km greater than that of the Michelin Primacy 4, until now the longest-lasting tyre in the category.

To achieve this, the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 uses a new compound that provides greater elasticity and flexibility in the tread. In addition, the tread design, with larger blocks, improves cornering stiffness and water evacuation on wet surfaces. In tests against its competitors, Goodyear places its new tyres among those that achieve shorter braking distances on dry and wet surfaces.

The Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 range will be available in 48 sizes, for rims from 15 to 19 inches, although not all of them will be offered from the start of sales.
