Mercedes-Benz wants cars to be personal assistants

Technology is teaming up with the automotive industry to take future car models one step further. Mercedes-Benz wants its next models to be more than just a tool for getting around the roads, so it has come up with a series of technologies that allow the car to carry out a range of activities that can help the owner in their day-to-day life, as if it were a personal assistant.
At the IFA, the company’s CEO, Dr Dieter Zetsche, presented a series of technologies that they plan to gradually incorporate into cars coming off the design table. Among these technologies are some that are almost real today and can be seen in operation right now.

Locating parking spaces is one of these technologies that is already practically active and allows a car to park by itself, without a driver needing to be in control. This technology is currently in use thanks to a collaboration with Bosch. The parking sensors allow the presence of unoccupied spaces to be detected and transmit their location to the cars, which can then autonomously drive to the corresponding spot.
The coming years will be very important for creating new technologies that improve the driving experience of new MercedesOther things this future model of Mercedes could do is take children to school, without the parents needing to be at the wheel. But the technologies are not only aimed at this type of situation; according to the executive of Mercedes, they want “the driver to be in better condition when getting out than when they got in“.
To achieve this, the technology implemented in the Mercedes will carry out a check on the driver’s overall health status and will make changes to the driving mode so that they can be better in matters such as blood pressure and other health-related parameters. A sophisticated sensor system will be able to make these changes and adapt the driving to improve the driver’s condition.
No, we don’t know when all these advances will be available, but it is not the only brand that has opted for this type of technology, so it could be one of the standards established across the industry from the next decade onwards. A few years which, by the way, are already upon us, so we won’t have to wait long to see all this become reality.
