miDGT app: what can I do with it?

The miDGT app will make our lives easier, so don’t miss out on everything you can do with this useful mobile app

Smartphones have become indispensable in our lives, and that device we carry in our pocket has made things much easier for us. In fact, some advances have made it possible to leave our wallet at home.

Nobody is surprised when, by simply holding the phone up to a card reader, we pay exactly as if we were using a card. Another example comes when boarding a train or a plane: we no longer need to print tickets, since we can carry them on our phone without worrying about losing them.

miDGT is the DGT’s latest big innovation

The Spanish Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) has wanted to join these advances to make life easier for all drivers. It has therefore launched the miDGT app, a new app through which we can carry a digital version of the driving licence with legal validity.

What does this mean? It means that we can now carry our licence on our phone and don’t have to worry about forgetting our wallet at home when we take the car. It is a logical step, although the DGT is cautious for the time being and recommends that: “until the system becomes widespread, your phone breaks down or you lose signal, it is important to keep carrying your physical documentation for greater safety”.

Therefore, if we are stopped at a routine checkpoint, we will be able to present our driving licence through the miDGT app, which will already be up to date and synchronised with the DGT’s computer systems. However, if we are going to drive abroad, we will need to carry the physical driving licence, since regulations in other countries do not necessarily match Spanish ones.

What else can we do with the miDGT app?

Keep the car’s documentation on your phone

The miDGT app opens up a world of possibilities, since its functions are not limited to carrying the driving licence on your phone. Another great advantage of this app is that it can store our cars’ registration documents. However, the original document identifying our car is still mandatory, so don’t miss the feature where we explain how to duplicate it in case of loss.

Not only that, but it will also show whether the car has completed all the necessary procedures, such as passing the MOT (ITV) inspection, whether we have paid all the taxes – these are all the taxes we have to pay for our car – or whether we have valid insurance.

Checking points

Another great advantage of the miDGT app is the possibility of checking the points on your driving licence. This way, we no longer have to go to the DGT website; once we register in the app with the digital ID card and the cl@ve system, we can access this information quickly and easily from our smartphone.

Furthermore, it seems the app will receive successive updates that will, among other things, show the addresses of the offices where points recovery courses are held and even allow us to carry out the procedures to sign up for them.App Midgt

Managing fines

Possible penalties and fines can also be collected in miDGT, so we can check them, contest them and even pay them, taking advantage of the early-payment discount.

In future updates, it is even expected that procedures such as changes to documentation and even change of ownership when buying or selling a second-hand car will be possible. If you are thinking of doing so, we leave you some articles such as our guide to selling your second-hand car, the procedures you must carry out to buy or sell your car and even everything you must bear in mind if you are going to buy a second-hand electric car.

If you want all these functions and advantages on your mobile phone, you just have to search for miDGT on Google Play – if you have an Android – or the Apple App Store – if you have an iPhone – and download it for free. Once this is done, you will be able to log in with the Cl@ve system credentials we previously used to access the DGT’s online platform.
