In summer, trips on the roads of our country increase, so it is important to keep the car in good condition and avoid more than one scare. The biggest of these can be having an accident that could cause health problems, something we must keep in mind. But in addition, even if no accident or mechanical failure occurs, it can lead to a penalty in the form of a fine.

This is what happened during the week of 11 to 17 July this year. During those days a special operation was carried out, in which 175,558 vehicles were inspected, of which 10,639 went home with a fine due to some irregularity detected by traffic officers.

The main problems reported

Failing the MOT inspection and not carrying the documentation are some of the main causes of fines this summerThe most serious cases have led to 107 vehicles being impounded, as the officers considered that they did not meet the necessary conditions to drive safely. Among them were 58 lorries, 8 vans and 35 cars. The main arguments used by the officers were an expired MOT, unfavourable or even failed, which poses a serious risk to traffic. This accounted for 30% of the fines issued.

Other defective elements they found were tyres in poor condition, with inadequate pressure or wear caused by poor steering alignment or similar issues. Other significant fines were given to people who did not have the mandatory documentation for the car (registration certificate, valid MOT and driving licence). A deteriorated number plate can also lead to a fine, as can lighting and signalling systems in poor condition.

All of this may seem minor and unimportant, but it is necessary to have everything in order and in perfect condition in order to drive without problems and without risk, for ourselves and for other drivers. Moreover, even if they seem unrelated to driving, we can avoid an unwanted fine, caused by a small problem that we can fix easily and quickly, with a visit to the garage.
