New Kia ProCeed: first generalist

The new Kia ProCeed features a five-door estate body with a sporty focus. It will reach the market in early 2019.

The new Kia ProCeed has been unveiled ahead of its official presentation, an event that will take place at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. The second generation of this model replaces the former three-door coupé version (which disappears from the range), and becomes a five-door saloon with a “shooting brake” body (sporty estate). It is a model with a completely distinctive design, which also sits in a category where it has hardly any competitors: the only shooting brake with similar characteristics is the Mercedes CLA, but it belongs to a more premium category. The new Kia ProCeed is a car designed for the European market: it will be sold only in the old continent, will be manufactured in Slovakia and has been designed based on the needs of European customers. Its production will start in November and the first units will be delivered in early 2019.

Bold and distinctive design

The new Kia ProCeed is a unique vehicle of its kind. At present it is the only shooting brake offered by a generalist brand. The new Kia ProCeed stands out for its sporty focus; in fact, it will only be available in GT Line versions or in the high-performance GT variant.

This version of the Kia Ceed features a very steeply raked rear window, which gives it a hybrid silhouette: halfway between a coupé saloon and a family estate. At the front it stands out for a series of features characteristic of the Kia range, such as the iconic “tiger nose” grille, the wide lower air intake and the “ice cube” daytime running lights.

The new ProCeed is lower and longer than the five-door Ceed and the Sportswagon (the estate variant of the Ceed): it measures 4,605 mm in length (5 mm more than the Ceed Sportswagon), has a height of 1,422 mm (43 mm lower than the Sportswagon), and a ground clearance of 135 mm (5 mm less than the Ceed and the Sportswagon). In addition, the ProCeed offers a noteworthy boot capacity: its 594 litres of volume (twice that of the Kia Ceed) place it above many compact estates (larger than the Ford Focus Sportbreak or Seat Leon ST, for example).

Versatile chassis: sporty tuning without giving up comfort

The new Kia ProCeed features a chassis with specific tuning. Its frame has been designed to enhance the dynamic behaviour of the Kia Ceed through corners, as well as to improve traction and steering feel.

The car comes as standard with a fully independent suspension. This suspension offers a more dynamic calibration than in the standard Ceed, resulting in agile responses at the wheel and greater body control in corners, without sacrificing a high level of ride comfort.

Efficient engines for every kind of driver

The new Kia ProCeed offers three petrol engines and one diesel. Starting with the petrol engines, the car is available with the popular three-cylinder T-GDi 1.0 l turbocharged powertrain that produces 120 CV of power and 172 Nm of torque. For the GT Line versions, the car can also be equipped with a 1.4-litre T-GDi powertrain that develops 140 CV of power and 242 Nm of torque. The most performance-oriented variant in the range, the ProCeed GT, comes as standard with a 1.6-litre T-GDi engine producing 204 CV of power and 265 Nm of torque. The first two options come as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, while the GT version comes as standard with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (also optionally available on the GT Line version with the 1.4-litre T-GDi engine).

The car is also available with a 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine that develops 136 CV of power and up to 320 Nm of torque (only achievable with the dual-clutch automatic gearbox). This powertrain comes as standard with the manual transmission, but can also be had with the dual-clutch gearbox.

Prices

Kia ProCeed

The prices of this shooting brake are still unknown, but bear in mind that the standard version of the Kia Ceed is available from 12,900 euros, while the Sportswagon variant starts at 15,160 euros (configurator price subject to manufacturer financing). For cash purchases, prices would be around 6,000 euros lower.
