New world record: An SLS AMG Roadster catches a golf ball launched from a distance
I’m starting to think the new marketing executives at Mercedes-Benz are suffering from some mild delusions. The star brand’s ads are getting stranger and harder to believe. First an SLS AMG Coupé touched a tunnel ceiling with its wheels, then they set the record for the longest drift, and now they have managed to launch a golf ball and, from 275m away, get it into the cabin of a car.
The best part is that it’s true. For the occasion they hired former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard and professional golfer Jake Pastor to break the Guinness World Record for the longest golf ball shot caught inside a moving car.
It all happened yesterday, when David Coulthard, at the wheel of a beautiful Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster, managed to catch a golf ball at 193 km/h that had been launched 275 metres away at a speed of 286 km/h. Even more impressive, the duo set the record in just two attempts. Incredible.
Seeing is believing. This new feat has been filmed on video as the centrepiece of Mercedes-Benz’s new advertising campaign and will start airing on television at the beginning of July this year.
