Nissan GT-R disables the speed limiter automatically on the track

Nissan GT-R

In Japan, the Nissan GT-R comes with a speed limiter set at 180 km/h, even though the car can go much faster than that. Interestingly, its GPS detects when it is on a track and automatically disables that speed limitation.

As SandMan says on Motorpasión, those 180 km/h are not the 250 km/h to which a BMW is limited. In the latter case, it would be difficult to reach them on a track, but the Japanese car’s 180 km/h is indeed a handicap for enjoying it on the circuit, which is why this measure is such a good decision.

Measures like this, well designed and protected against possible tampering, could prevent accidents with fatal consequences. A high-performance sports car does not always end up in the hands of experienced drivers, so by limiting its top speed to those 180 km/h (well above legal limits), many tragedies could be avoided.

In principle this technology will only be available on the Japanese units of the Nissan GT-R, since supposedly, for America and Europe, its speed limit will be 250 km/h.
