Nissan Sylphy Concept: a global reinterpretation of the Sentra

The Beijing show will also feature the Nissan Sylphy, a new global interpretation of the well-known Nissan Sentra. Its appearance in Europe is not guaranteed.

The three-box saloon segment remains attractive, even though the market has rapidly shifted towards smaller, more urban-oriented vehicles. Nevertheless, Nissan has a strong presence in the USA, where it has recently launched the new Altima, the new Pathfinder and the new Sentra; the latter being the basis of the Sylphy Concept that will make its debut in Beijing.

What Nissan has decided is to turn the Sentra into a global model, with few differences between the versions for different regions. We could therefore consider that the Sylphy Concept will be almost the finished version of what will be seen in 2014, when the brand launches it in roughly 120 countries around the world.

Mechanically, this concept will be fitted with a new 1.8-litre engine, paired with a likewise new engine management system and coupled to a CVT gearbox. Both the engine and the transmission have been designed with low consumption, low engine speeds and long durability of all components in mind.

After its presentation in China, the Sylphy will gradually appear in Asian markets and the USA. There is still no great certainty that the model will be sold in Europe, perhaps waiting for some kind of resolution to the crisis that has hit us in recent years.
