Production of the eEconic, the new German electric truck, begins
The German company has started production of the eEconic electric truck, intended for collecting municipal waste in several European cities.

Mercedes has announced that production of the Mercedes eEconic, the electric truck that will reach the market in a few months, has already begun. The production phase comes about a year after the German company announced that development of the model had started. For the time being, it is the first production phase that is being carried out at the Wörth plant.
At this factory, the assembly of the main structure is carried out, but to fit the electrical equipment, that is, the battery pack and the motor, this initial structure must be transferred to the Future Truck Center. There, all these components and other high-voltage elements will be added.

A truck with a public service spirit
The Mercedes eEconic is designed to provide a public service. In principle, it is intended to serve as a refuse collection truck. It will be ready to perform that service, and its design allows it to cover its service routes without needing an intermediate charge.

To do so, it has been equipped with three battery packs. Together, they offer a capacity of 336 kWh, which should allow the truck to complete one daily route and fulfil its purpose, covering between 100 and 150 kilometres.
The battery can accept charging of up to 160 kW, which would allow recharging 80% in 75 minutes. All of this makes the vehicle a very valid option for carrying out its service efficiently.
In fact, several European cities have already tested the eEconic truck and compared its efficiency with the vehicles already in service there. Those vehicles are combustion-engined, so both their range and the noise they produce during service are considerably better.
The first units to leave the plant already have an owner. They will travel to Denmark, where they will become part of the fleet of the company Urbaser A/S, which is dedicated precisely to the collection of municipal waste.
