Rivian adds a system to protect pets from the heat in its models
Rivian incorporates the pet comfort system into its R1 model, which automatically regulates the interior temperature in case the driver is away.

During the summer, the temperature inside a car can rise very quickly , reaching dangerous levels. So it is necessary to think carefully about leaving a pet in the car for a long period of time. Most cars do not have a cooling system that helps keep the temperature under control so that the interior remains pleasant even when the driver is not on board.
A few years ago, Tesla applied a solution to this problem. The American brand’s Pet Mode allowed the cabin temperature to be kept at a comfortable level when the driver had to step away from the car for a few minutes. Now, a similar system has been enabled in Rivian cars.

The software update fitted to Rivina models is called Pet Comfort. This update allows a temperature to be set between 20ºC and 23ºC, a temperature that keeps the pet comfortable while it waits for its owner to return to the car.
The Pet Comfort system is activated by pressing the dog paw button on the multimedia screen. From that moment on, a temperature can be set manually or the system can be left to activate at an automatic temperature of 21ºC. In addition, the system disables the motion sensor inside the car, so that it does not send alerts due to the pet’s movement.
It will also warn the driver if the cabin temperature rises too much or if the battery level drops to critical levels. The system will operate continuously until the battery charge runs out or the driver turns it off.
A message on the screen
If someone walks past the car and sees the pet inside, they may feel the need to call emergency services or act to save the dog’s life. Fortunately, the screen of the Rivian, as also happens on the Tesla, shows the interior temperature information and the message: “My pet is safe and comfortable“.
This software update for the Rivian R1 not only improves the driving experience, but also helps provide more comfort and convenience while using the vehicle. By the way, the company warns that this system should only be used with pets and for short periods, and not with children. Children, of course, must never be left alone in the car.
