Strange, ridiculous and interesting aerodynamic experiment on a Geo Metro

Defining such disparate experiences with just three words may be a bit risky. Yet each one captures the feelings I had when I first watched the video. From the surprise of building an “aerodynamic tail” for a Canadian GEO Metro, to the absurdity of such an improvised build, all the way to the surprise that this experiment made from cardboard delivers verifiable results.

The idea was to reduce fuel consumption of the thrifty Geo Metro, one of the favourite cars of hypermilling enthusiasts, Hypermilling, which aim to burn as little fuel as possible using various driving techniques.

And it seems this unusual add-on worked. By extending the rear of the car by almost two metres, the owner of this Metro (Pontiac Firefly) managed to improve fuel efficiency by 15% at 90 km/h.
