The 456 km/h of a Ford GT from a standing start is a world record

A Ford GT holds the world record for top speed from a standing start over a 1-mile stretch, at 256 km/h.

Days ago, the world record for top speed from a standstill was set over a 1.6-kilometre (1-mile) course, with 456 km/h. The lucky car was a Ford GT tuned by Performance Power Racing, and the record took place at the Kennedy Space Center in the USA.

The Ford GT is a 2006 model and, to our surprise, it has the quality that draws our attention so much: it is street legal, despite producing 1,700 horsepower to the rear wheels. Performance Power Racing has not revealed the level of tuning, the only detail mentioned being that the engine would use a certain aluminium alloy called Pandalloy, produced no less than together with Pratt and Whitney… the turbine manufacturer.

The latest attempt with this Ford GT was verified and certified by Guinness, making it the highest speed record, which now takes first place in the one-mile standing start category.
