Citroen Grand C4 Rodius SsangYong Reports
The best cars for travelling with three child seats
We have chosen five cars well worth considering if the goal is to carry three child seats
When the family grows, the space shrinks. Not only does the boot space become compromised, which is why it becomes essential to get advice on how to carry cargo outside the boot, but inside the cabin, the approved seating positions are taken up by the arrival of little ones.
And when they still need to travel in the mandatory child restraint systems, also known as “child seats”, each one needs its own device.
Fitting and travelling in a standard car with up to two child seats is feasible in most cases where we are talking about cars of, or above, the B-segment, but installing child restraint systems is, to say the least, a challenge. That is why we set out to find the best cars for travelling with three child seats.
Citroën Grand C4 Spacetourer
The MPV segment falls dramatically every month among new car sales, but it remains a key group for families with the greatest space requirements.
The highest-capacity version for carrying people, the Citroën Grand C4 Spacetourer, stands out as an MPV with three individual seats in the second row, allowing a child restraint device to be installed in each of them.
Thanks to the layout of its rear seats, its up to 704 litres of load capacity and a starting price from €18,200 as the cheapest Citroën Grand C4 Spacetourer price, according to the brand’s configurator, it is a very worthwhile option when it comes to travelling in a car suitable for three child seats.
SsangYong Rodius
This distinctive Korean MPV is one of the essentials on the list of the best cars for travelling with three child seats.
Thanks to its configuration as a vehicle with up to seven seats and its 2+2+3 layout, it allows the seats to be positioned to suit the needs of its users. For example, it is possible to place two child restraint systems in the last row and another in one of the two middle rows, or two in the individual seats of the middle row and the third in the rear.
One of the strong points of the SsangYong Rodius is always having the advantage of a central aisle, which facilitates not only getting in and out of the vehicle, but also moving about more freely when placing the child seat occupants inside or attending to their needs without having to get out of the car, provided the vehicle has come to a stop.
The cheapest SsangYong price, with current promotions and discounts, taking as a reference the one shown on its website, starts at €25,100.
Volkswagen Touran
The Volkswagen Touran is the German cousin of the Seat Alhambra we will discuss next. An MPV that also offers up to seven seats and a three-seat bench where three child seats can be fitted.
With a configuration almost identical to the MPV bearing the Granadian name, it faces the end of a lifecycle that, it seems, is destined to be phased out or, at the very least, replaced by an alternative that will not bear its name. Thus, the cheapest Volkswagen Touran price starts at €28,025, a more competitive price than that of the Seat Alhambra itself.
Seat Alhambra
The grandeur of the Alhambra is carried into the generous spaces of the Seat Alhambra. So much so that, when we think of cars in which to install three child seats, the Seat MPV is one of the first that comes to mind.
Another option, with a row of seats behind the individual front seats that allows the anchoring of three child restraint systems and the transport of the family’s luggage in the cargo area or, alternatively, up to seven people, thanks to its two folding seats in the third row.
The cheapest Seat Alhambra price, for the Reference trim, starts from €32,310.
Mercedes-Benz V
And if we are talking about high-capacity passenger cars, the new Mercedes-Benz V demonstrated in its presentation and first contact that its credentials as a luxury high-capacity passenger vehicle are outstanding.
Thanks to its interior layout, it is entirely feasible to fit not only three child seats, something we were able to verify in the different versions we tried during the road tests of the new Mercedes-Benz V.
Without a doubt, one of the best cars for travelling with three child seats, provided you have the €50,202 of the cheapest Mercedes-Benz V version in Rise trim.
