The Citroën C5 Aircross takes on the steepest street in the world
The new Citroën C5 Aircross faces a great challenge: driving down the steepest street in the world. If you want to see how this story ends, keep reading.
Guinness World Records has announced that Ffordd Pen Llech, in the historic town of Harlech (Wales), is the steepest street in the world, inheriting this curious title from a New Zealand street.
It features a series of bends and huge slopes, so everyone brave enough to tackle it will climb a total of 50 metres in height over a distance of 330 metres. Citroën has therefore used this challenge for all drivers to put the new Citroën C5 Aircross to the test.
The steepest street in the world served as a test site for the Citroën C5 Aircross
Just standing at the start of Ffordd Pen Lech, you can see at once why this street has earned its reputation, since the gradient reaches as much as 37.5%. This tough incline was therefore a real challenge for the Grip Control system and the Hill Descent Assist of the new Citroën C5 Aircross.
When the car is travelling at speeds below 30 km/h and on a gradient steeper than 5%, the Hill Assist system activates to reduce the risk of rolling back, maintaining a steady speed of 3 km/h. Meanwhile, the Grip Control system lets you choose between several driving modes to achieve the right traction on tricky surfaces such as snow, sand or mud.
Another system benefiting the latest SUV from the French brand is the Citroën Advanced Comfort, standard on the Flair and Flair Plus trim levels. This option guarantees total ride comfort thanks to seats that combine high-density foam with thicker foam and feature fully electric adjustment.
Comfort and flexibility to become the “Car of the Year”
The Citroën C5 Aircross is proving a real success for the chevron brand, having won the “Car of the Year” award. Without doubt, two of the keys to its success have been its modularity and, above all, the ride comfort it offers. In addition, the Citroën C5 Aircross served as a laboratory to present the brand’s first plug-in hybrid concept.
The French crossover has three individual seats in the rear that can also slide, fold and recline. It also offers a generous load space, so the Citroën C5 Aircross has a 720-litre boot.
The French manufacturer has also equipped the car with the latest technologies, including the Connected Cam Citroën, a Full HD camera mounted behind the rear-view mirror that acts as a guardian. It can automatically save recordings in the event of an accident.
Another useful safety feature is the Citroën Connect Box Emergency & Assistance System, which allows an emergency call to be made in the event of a breakdown on the road. Finally, the Citroën Connect Nav navigation system can provide real-time traffic updates to make the journey as comfortable and relaxing as possible.
