Mercedes Concepts Range / versions Pick-up
The first "pick-up" with the star is called Mercedes-Benz Concept X-Class

When we think of Mercedes, we usually think of comfortable and elegant saloons or vans for work that deliver ample capacity for their purpose. But now, the German manufacturer wants to combine both concepts and has created a pick-up with the capacity to seat five people in its cabin, yet with the distinctive style of a Mercedes. This is the Mercedes-Benz Concept X-Class and it is the first pick-up of luxury that the market will see.
This model comes in two versions. The Concept X-Class powerful adventurer incorporates all the attributes normally found in a pick-up: robustness, power and off-road capability to move over quite demanding terrain. The other version is the Concept X-Class stylish explorer, which adds to all of the above the elegance of Mercedes’s bodywork and the comfort and equipment characteristic of the brand.

Although it has not seen growth similar to that of SUVs, the pick-up market has grown moderately, and more and more users own this type of vehicle both for work and for private use. So both versions could have their place in the garages of drivers looking for the luxury of Mercedes and the effectiveness of a pick-up.

The look of this variant captures the spirit of Mercedes’s SUVs, but its front, with a wide grille and the star in the centre, brings to mind the brand’s coupés. This creates a good contrast between the robustness of an off-roader and the elegance and dynamism of a coupé. And all of this comes with a payload of one tonne, which is what truly makes this model interesting.

The chosen colour, metallic white, provides a very pleasing contrast with the 22-inch alloy wheels, and the anthracite finish gives it an urban look, although it is equally suited to work in the countryside. The interior of the model matches this spirit and gives us a versatile vehicle with very complete equipment, lacking few of the features found in Mercedes’s saloons.

This version aims to fully and effectively enhance the capabilities of a pick-up. It has been presented in metallic Lemonax, which gives it a powerful and strong image. The grille used on this version is that of a Mercedes SUV, so we know it is oriented more towards the countryside than the city. The other version already covers the city.

Although it does not have the look of such luxury as the other, it has nothing to envy. The carbon fibre details provide that elegant yet practical and efficient vision, and it also has a winch at the front to tackle the most demanding challenges.
Both versions will have engines enabling a payload of one tonne and a towing capacity of three and a half tonnes. The top-of-the-range model will have a V6 diesel engine with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Mercedes intends to begin sales of the model at the end of 2017, so we will have more details on the production version shortly.
