The Hennessey Venom GT and its speed record: 427.6 km/h

At the beginning of February, a team from Hennessey took a heavily modified Venom GT to a Californian air base, with a dream goal: to be the fastest production car in the world. Finally, they achieved it, with a top speed of 427.6 kilometres per hour.
Having first reached 300 km/h in January with an average time of 13.63 seconds, the time had come to see how the coupé, with ancestors in Lotus, would fare against cars like the Bugatti Veyron. It did not beat the Veyron, but it still ended up as the fastest. Why?
According to John Hennessey, the Veyron Super Sport is a couple of kilometres per hour faster, reaching a top speed of almost 430 km/h. However, Bugatti sells its vehicles limited to “only” 412 km/h, whereas Hennessey sells them with no limitation for the customer.
For further details, the Venom GT is equipped with a 7-litre twin-turbo V8, producing a brutal 1,244 hp, in a vehicle that weighs just 1,200 kilos and costs slightly less than the Veyron, 940,000 euros.
