The Jensen Interceptor R, ready to keep the brand alive

I can’t help but be struck by the effort British coachbuilders are putting in to stay in the spotlight with models that are already 40 years old. In its day, the Jensen Interceptor was more than good, but don’t you think we’re already overdoing it with a new model powered by a “Corvette V8” engine?
The baton has now been taken up by a company called Jensen International Automotive, which will present a new revival of the Interceptor, this time with the revered 6.2-litre V8 from the Chevrolet Corvette. It seems like one of those engine-swap tuning projects or the classic V8 crammed into a car that was neither designed for such an engine nor deserves it.
But the reality is that the original Jensen Interceptors technically featured a V8 engine of Chrysler, later rising to a brutal 7.2 litres in successive generations (and in theory we’re now on the fifth). The truth is that the Interceptor is a true icon of British automotive culture, the dream come true of any English Lord or anyone who can save enough to pay the sky-high prices these cars command.
What I don’t understand is this obsession with bringing back to life a car that’s already outdated, no matter how many countless horsepower it has under its bonnet.
