Mercedes-Benz has just released a video showing some details of the GLA, the SUV version of the A-Class. It is a variant that has been speculated about for months.

When the GLA goes on sale, it will become the smallest SUV in the history of the star brand, and it will try to rival models of the size of the Audi Q3 and the Audi X1.

It will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, following the lines set by the concept presented earlier at the Shanghai Motor Show.
Will the GLA be able to repeat the success of the current A-Class? The exterior design has every chance of succeeding. Basically, the Mercedes-Benz engineers have taken the A-Class and added muscle. The front is still dominated by the large grille with two slats and the star centred, along with slightly more muscular lines, especially over the rear haunches and the rear end.

The technical base will be the same as that of the current A-Class, B-Class and CLA. Therefore, the chassis will hardly change at all, only what is necessary to accommodate the new raised suspension and all-wheel drive.
The engines will also be the same, so a very wide range is expected, with power outputs from 109 CV up to 170 CV in diesel, and 122 CV and 211 CV in petrol. The only remaining doubt is the possibility of a hypothetical AMG version, which would house the four-cylinder turbo engine producing 350 CV.
