The Roewe 750 will have a hybrid version

SAIC has announced that it is preparing the production of a hybrid version of the Roewe 750. The 750 is the flagship saloon of the Roewe brand (formerly the Rover 75), and we do not yet know when it will reach the European market.
SAIC will fit a hybrid system to assist the combustion engine, but it will not replace the combustion engine. The aim of the Chinese manufacturer is to reduce the consumption of the Roewe 750 Hybrid by 20%.
To develop the new hybrid engine, SAIC has commissioned the development of lithium-ion batteries from Johnson Controls, and the experts at Ricardo will handle the mechanical side of the tuning. The new hybrid version will be on the market in 2010, according to SAIC. At that point Roewe is expected to expand its models, the Roewe 750 and the Roewe 550, into other markets.
