The electric SsangYong Korando will be the first electric car from the South Korean manufacturer

SsangYong’s roadmap for electrifying its range has determined that the electric SsangYong Korando will be the first of the South Korean manufacturer’s cars to dispense with any fossil fuel.

As Automotive News points out, the electric SsangYong Korando will open the catalogue of SsangYong models for the electric car market.

The current SsangYong Korando is on borrowed time. This is confirmed by the presentation of the next generation of the city SUV as one of the new releases at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

There we will see the new 2019 SsangYong Korando which, initially, will be offered with the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engines and the diesel version with the 1.6 unit, while for the presentation of the electric SsangYong Korando we will have to wait beyond the Swiss event, held from 5 to 17 March, to see it.

The arrival of the electric SsangYong Korando

As we indicated, SsangYong will initially focus on versions with engines that run on traditional fuels. It will not be until next year that we see the electric SsangYong Korando.

An electric SsangYong Korando will be based on the 2018 prototype, presented as the SsangYong e-SIV EV Concept, also at the Geneva Motor Show. A prototype whose lines essentially recall the generation currently sold at dealerships of the SsangYong Tivoli and SsangYong XLV.

This indicates that the new SsangYong Korando would retain the styling already shown in the updated SsangYong Tívoli and XLV.

That SsangYong e-SIV offered an electric system with an estimated range of 450 km. A maximum distance that the electric SsangYong Korando heading to production could offer as well.

A new member of SsangYong’s Eco range

Currently, the SsangYong Eco range includes two options among vehicles that display the DGT ECO label. These are the SsangYong Tívoli G16 GLP 4×2 and the SsangYong XLV G16 GLP 4×2. Two vehicles that run on two fuels, which is why they are considered bi-fuel cars. They consume traditional petrol and also LPG or AutoGas.

These two cars are the first to receive the coveted eco badge, to which other models will later be added, and the electric SsangYong Korando will be the first SsangYong to achieve the ZERO label.
