The US Army is also switching to eco-friendly vehicles

The US Marine Corps is set to receive electric trucks Smith Newton that will serve as troop transport, with a range of 80 to 180 kilometres and a top speed of 90 km/h. The truck is manufactured in the United States and is the only one in its class powered by electric motors.

The first two units are being prepared for delivery, although they are unlikely to replace the sadly famous Humvee any time soon. However, these vehicles have a major advantage in military use. That advantage is the silence of their powertrain, which would allow them to go almost unnoticed in certain conditions.

These trucks have already been sold as commercial transports to several American companies, so it is not a vehicle designed specifically for military use. Adapting these trucks marks the beginning of a policy aimed at having all US armed forces stop using fossil fuels by 2040.
