The Volvo XC40 promises! The compact SUV has already racked up 20,000 orders
The Volvo XC40 arrives on the market to overtake the XC60 as the best-selling model of the Swedish brand.
The Volvo XC40 promises to be one of the most important cars of 2018. The first compact SUV from the Swedish firm aims to become a tough rival for models such as the Audi Q3, BMW X2 or Mercedes GLA. In just a few months, the XC40 has already racked up 20,000 orders, a truly promising figure considering the car is only available in the European and American markets. Soon the car will be offered in China, probably the market where it will achieve its greatest commercial performance.

At the end of 2017, the Volvo XC40 had 81 units registered in Spain, but the forecasts for 2018 are much more ambitious, especially considering the 20,000 orders the SUV has already accumulated between Europe and the USA. In the current year, the Swedish firm expects to surpass with the XC40 the 5,544 registrations achieved by its flagship, the Volvo XC60. The mid-size premium SUV is currently the best-selling model of Volvo, but in 2018 the XC40 could replace its bigger sibling on the sales throne. The XC40 has what it takes to be a bestseller in the premium segment, especially considering the growth the compact SUV category has been experiencing in recent months.

“With the XC40 we enter the segment with the greatest expansion in the sector,” says Björn Annwall, First Vice President of Strategy, Brand & Retail at Volvo Cars. “The XC40 completes the SUV range and brings the award-winning safety, connectivity and infotainment technologies of our larger vehicles to the small SUV segment. The latest figures make it clear that customers like what they see.”

The XC40 is the first model of the new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) of Volvo, the basis for the upcoming vehicles of the 40 Series, including fully electrified models. Developed in collaboration with Geely, this architecture provides the company with the economies of scale needed in this segment.

In addition, the XC40 is the first Volvo that incorporates the vehicle sharing function, which is activated thanks to the digital key technology of Volvo and its connected services platform Volvo On Call. XC40 owners can share their vehicle with family and friends without having to hand over the key.
