This is how the new Mitsubishi ASX looks, 2020

The presentation of the new Mitsubishi ASX was expected for March. We already have the first images of the deep aesthetic revision of this SUV

And, although we will see the new Mitsubishi ASX as one of the novelties of the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the Japanese manufacturer has presented the marketed version as Mitsubishi ASX 2020. A deep update of the entry-level SUV in the range of SUVs, crossovers and off-roaders.

This new Mitsubishi ASX stands out for its aesthetic similarity to the Mitsubishi Outlander. Even so, this version of the popular SUV improves on the one that is still being sold at dealerships.

Greater presence for the new Mitsubishi ASX

It is clear that Mitsubishi is seeking with this new Mitsubishi ASX a car that is clearly differentiated from its predecessor. To achieve this, it has drawn inspiration from the more adventurous character of SUVs and has redefined it for urban use.

Thus, the result shows a front end where the main headlights sit in an elevated position at the ends of the front grille, which is divided into two strips where the metallic shine stands out. The three-diamond logo also appears in metal in the centre of the image. Beneath the main lights are set the indicator and fog light units, a light group framed by metallic inserts.

The rear is dominated by the red position lights. LED lighting sharpens the rear view. A line between both lights, which are divided by the tailgate to facilitate loading and unloading of cargo in the boot, that add style and dynamism to the design, which grows in robustness with a grey metallic lower protector on the bumper featuring two simulated exhaust outlets, complemented by recesses that hide the rear wheels from view.

On the side, the most notable change is the unfortunate air intake behind the front wheel arch that the current ASX retains and which, although still far from attractive, no longer looks like the aerodynamic simulation sticker sold in any hypermarket.

Overall, this configuration is a certainty. It gives a more robust and rugged image than the current ASX. It stops being a city crossover with a styling close to the classic off-roader and instead presents an imposing SUV figure with adventurous intentions.

The body colour range for the new Mitsubishi ASX will be Red Diamond, Sunshine Orange and Oak Brown.

The heart of the new Mitsubishi ASX

This car will be presented in the old continent during the Swiss event held between 5 and 17 of next March. For Europe, the engine of the new Mitsubishi ASX will be the 2.0-litre, 16-valve naturally aspirated MIVEC unit, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed CVT.

The new Mitsubishi ASX reinforces its character as an SUV by offering two drivetrain versions. It will be sold with front-wheel drive, 4×2, or all-wheel drive, 4×4.

Thanks to its design, the Mitsubishi ensures light, compact, easy and satisfying handling, both in urban situations and off the tarmac.

The new Mitsubishi ASX is also renewed inside

Without more details, we know that other novelties of this 2020 Mitsubishi ASX are found in its cabin. For example, it includes a new screen on the central console that grows from seven to eight inches.

In addition, users will be provided with an app capable of acting as an on-board computer, reporting on speedometer, odometer, warning signals and other vehicle information such as estimated range or real-time navigation data.
