Two engineers from Mercedes-Benz die in an accident

Unfortunately, accidents can also affect test drivers and engineers who carry out road tests at high speed. A few months ago we learned of the death of the chief test driver of Toyota, and now, sadly, two engineers from Mercedes-Benz lost their lives aboard an SLR McLaren 722, near Frankfurt.

The two engineers were carrying out control tests on the SLR McLaren when the driver lost control of the car at about 300 km/h, went through the motorway barriers, struck several trees and then fell into a small ravine.

The car was completely destroyed and the occupants were thrown out, dying instantly. Given the unrecognisable state of the SLR, not even the seat belt would have saved them.
