What is a Track Day?

Taking part in a Track Day is one of the best experiences for those who enjoy driving and want to test their abilities.

If you are one of those people who has petrol running through their veins instead of blood, and the best moment of the week is when you take your car out on a mountain road, you will know perfectly well what a Track Day is. As its name suggests, it involves taking your car onto a circuit without needing to be a professional driver, paying a fee to be able to use the track.

Track days originated in the United Kingdom so that motoring enthusiasts could test their driving and the limits of their own cars in a safe, controlled environment designed for high speeds.

Getting into circuit sessions is ideal if you want to let off steam and improve your driving skills. The road is not a circuit, so if you want to drive without worries or fear of fines, signing up for a free session at a circuit is the right decision.

This is your chance to feel like a racing driver for a day, being the one who sets the limits for a few hours.

Who organises a Track Day

If you want to find out whether you have good hands, whether you know your limits, and also want to see how a car reacts in extreme situations, the circuit is the right place.

You can rest assured, since we have a strong motorsport culture and several circuits in Spain (Jarama, Castellolí, Kotarr, Barcelona, Albacete…) that have dates reserved for Track Days, usually at weekends.

These are usually companies independent of the circuits, brands such as Audi and its Driving Experience, which Top10Motor was invited to and whose experience we have already told you about, or external promoters and organisers, who book the dates and take charge of organising the private circuit sessions from their promotion and registration through to their running.

In addition, one of the great positives of Track Days is the good atmosphere at the event. As at most car meets, you may find people with the same car as yours, and people are generally willing to help and be helped.

Although most participants are usually enthusiasts, there can be big differences between drivers, with people experienced on track and “beginners”, something that quickly shows on the track. In addition, the event organisation divides participants into groups, taking into account the characteristics of the cars they enter with, in order to match the performance of the different groups as closely as possible so as not to disturb or be disturbed.

Once you have chosen the track where you want to drive, the next step is choosing which car you will use. Nothing is written about this, although we have considered which is the best or what type of car to use in track sessions or track days, but to be honest, you can take almost anything with four wheels, as long as the organisation allows it.

However, as a very general classification, there are four different options: from entering with your own car, whether your daily driver or your ‘weekend’ car, to preparing a car yourself or renting vehicles specially intended for these events.

Therefore, a Track Day can become an unbeatable weekend plan: you will have fun like a child, improve your driving skills and meet people. So we encourage you to do it and try the experience, since we have no doubt you will love it.
