A new DS 5 for the Geneva Motor Show

DS is the most luxurious brand in the PSA group, derived from Citroën. In this second youth it has been enjoying since the launch of the DS 3, the French brand has created three models that make up a range where luxury and design are its basic premises.

Ahead of the Geneva Motor Show, which takes place in 15 days, its flagship, the DS 5, is being renewed to make the great leap and “emancipate” itself from its mother, Citroën.

The previous DS 5 still carried the parent company’s badge, Citroën, something this renewal changes. The DS brand acquires its own identity, and it is no longer possible to identify its DS 5 as a Citroën. The most significant changes are found at the front, where the grille, which houses the logo, now has a three-dimensional brushed-metal finish, extending until it meets the headlights, which also have a more stylized design and, in addition, feature “Full LED xenon” technology.

The side and rear view hardly changes, except for alloy wheels of a new design, even more dynamic, emphasizing the curves of the bodywork. The two tailpipe-style trims on the rear bumper are retained, which, depending on the version, function as exhaust outlets. New body colours are also added, such as the blue seen in the photographs.

Inside, the changes are in line with PSA’s latest models. The multimedia system is updated, incorporating a touchscreen that allows the removal of a handful of physical buttons, something appreciated in one of the most button- and switch-laden interiors on the market today. The equipment can be enhanced with an advanced audio system signed by the specialist Denon, ambient lighting, front seats with massage, or a new blind-spot warning system.

The engine range also receives new additions, such as the BlueHDi diesel engines, which together with the THP petrol engines make up a range with outputs between 120 and 210 CV. Sales are planned for summer 2015.
