A new Hummer EV arrives with kevlar armour, but it is not bulletproof

This is the second transformation of the Hummer EV made by SoFlo, which features kevlar protection to reinforce its bodywork.

The new Hummer EV cannot forget its origins. This model comes from a vehicle that served in the military for a long time, and the electric pick-up is not going to follow that path immediately, but it has received a couple of treatments to give it a martial look. A few months ago we saw how the company SoFlo created a version with a kevlar coating to give its bodywork greater resistance.

That said, this armour is not designed to turn the Hummer into a bulletproof vehicle. Instead, it is intended to give the bodywork greater resistance for driving over difficult terrain. In this case, the Hummer EV features a three-layer epoxy coating infused with kevlar. This time the sand colour has been chosen, giving it more of a desert vehicle look. Hence its name, Sandstorm.

Inside, the same brown colour has been used for the upholstery, which features a diamond pattern, and for the centre console. As for equipment, it is not clear whether it retains the same four-inch suspension lift as the previous transformation. What we can see is different is that Black Rhino wheels and Atlas Parraller M/T tyres have been fitted, giving it a wider and more aggressive appearance.

The changes made to the bodywork allow for improved aerodynamics, which would benefit range. But the weight added by the wheels and tyres, which are very large, offsets that benefit.

None of these changes alter the Hummer EV’s propulsion system in any way, which uses three electric motors delivering a combined output of 1,000 CV, more than enough to move its 4,110 kg with ease. Something to note with this new version is that the all-wheel drive system and CrabWalk mode can still be used even with the new wheels and tyres.

The price of this version with the kevlar coating is $219,000, the same price as SoFlo’s previous conversion. For now, it is only available in the United States, but this kevlar coating offers more resistance to scuffs and abrasion on difficult terrain.
