An electric version of the Jaguar F-Type? The British brand is considering it
The Jaguar F-Type could receive a 100% electric version, according to Autocar after interviewing Jaguar’s chief designer.
Jaguar has debuted in the electric vehicle market with the new I-Pace, but will the British manufacturer produce any other 100% electric model in the near future? According to our colleagues at Autocar, Jaguar is considering launching an electric version of the upcoming Jaguar F-Type. If it goes ahead, the British brand would launch a vehicle that would compete with the all-powerful Tesla Roadster or the BMW i8.
The next generation of the Jaguar F-Type is expected in a couple of years. “As a car for enthusiasts, it will have a longer lifespan than conventional models, but there will be a new F-Type,” says Ian Callum, Jaguar’s chief designer, speaking about the six years the current generation of the F-Type has been in production.

What will happen to the current 5.0-litre V8 engine of the Jaguar F-Type?
Another speculation surrounding the British sports car is the possibility that its current engine range will be replaced by engines from BMW. According to several reports, Jaguar Land Rover is negotiating with BMW to replace its current supercharged 5.0-litre V8 with the twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 from the BMW group. This engine would therefore debut in the new F-Type, and later be used in other models: the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport.

This would not be the first time JLR has used BMW engines. The second-generation Range Rover (produced between 1994 and 2002) featured a six-cylinder diesel engine designed by BMW, while the third generation of the same model had a 4.4-litre V8 from the German manufacturer, an engine that was used until 2006.
As for the entry-level engines in the range, the next Jaguar F-Type will very likely continue to offer the four-cylinder Ingenium engines from the JLR group.
