An interesting eco-friendly proposal, GENeco Bio-Bug

The British company GENeco has developed an anaerobic digestion system that makes it possible to use the gas produced by wastewater treatment as biofuel.

Initially, the Avonmouth facilities (located in Bristol County, United Kingdom) generated electricity from biogas only for the plant itself, but over the years, constant technological improvements allowed the gas purification process to increase its output, so that they became an option for users on the national electricity grid.

The company’s manager, Mohammed Saddiq, explained that due to a large amount of surplus gas, GENeco had to find a viable alternative for using the biogas, so after carrying out some tests, they managed to develop a process that allows methane to be used as a biofuel.

It is indicated that the biogas can be used without affecting the car’s performance or raising doubts about its safety after a treatment called “upgrading”. During this process the CO2 is separated from the other components.

GENeco’s first eco-friendly four-wheeled project is called Bio Bug; it is reported that the small hatchback can cover 160,000 km a year using only the biogas generated by 70 houses.

Unfortunately, no details are given about the car’s mechanics; however, its structure is likely not to differ much from current cars powered by LPG.
