Audi Virtual Mirror: mirrors that provide real-time images
Little by little, digital technology is being introduced more and more into the automotive world. One example is the mirrors, which will be replaced by cameras.
Technological innovation in the car sector never stops growing. The Audi e-tron is a clear example of this. This model aims to become the first 100% electric car from the German manufacturer and, in addition, intends to be a benchmark for technological innovation in vehicles.
One of these major promising advances is the Audi Virtual Mirror. This new system replaces the mirrors with cameras that capture images in real time and even provide information about approaching vehicles or warn of blind spots with remarkable precision.

The images will be displayed on screens located in the doors, right where the mirrors would be. In this way, we won’t abandon the routine habit of turning our heads to check traffic, but this time we will do so with a wider viewing angle and in HD. In fact, if required, it will be possible to zoom to improve visibility even further.

The Audi Virtual Mirror system will feature 3 viewing modes: motorway driving, parking and winding roads. Thanks to this, we can feel confident facing the different situations we may encounter on the road and thus drive more safely.

For the moment, this technology must be approved and authorised by the competent bodies. The base model will come with traditional mirrors; the virtual ones will initially be available as an option and will be quite expensive.
Very interesting times for automotive technology, especially in 2019, when many of the first 100% electric vehicles from various prestigious brands will be launched.
